VAE Redispersible Powders
VAE redispersible powders are manufactured from the latex by using spray-drying
process.  Polyvinyl alcohol stabilized VAE copolymers are used to make redispersible
VAE powders. The spray-dried powders produce emulsions with properties
comparable to the original latex when stirred into water.  The powders have satisfied
the need for storing and transporting construction reinforcement materials without
water while providing improvements in end-use applications properties.  These
properties include improved water retention, flexural strength, tensile strength, and
abrasion resistance.  The VAE redispersible powders eliminated problems
encountered with latex products: freeze/thaw stability, biocontamination, special
packaging requirements and storage.  The redispersible powders are used in typical
applications as: ceramic tile adhesives; concrete repair mortars; thermal insulating
adhesives; self-leveling mortars; joint fillers as well as trowelling and smoothing
compounds; decorative plasters or renders; sealing slurries and wall paper adhesives.
